Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a NYS inspection cost?
Safety-only inspection: $10. Safety + Emissions inspection: $21. These are state-mandated fees — every official station charges the same.
Do I need an appointment?
No! Walk-ins are welcome during business hours (9 AM – 9 PM, 7 days a week). Most inspections take 15-30 minutes.
What happens if my car fails?
You get a rejection notice listing what failed. You have 30 days to fix the issues and return for a free re-inspection at the same station. We can fix most failures on the spot.
How often do I need an inspection?
Once every 12 months. Your current inspection sticker shows the expiration month. Get it done before that month ends to avoid tickets (up to $100 fine).
Does my car need an emissions test?
If your vehicle is registered in the NYC metro area (including Great Neck) and is a 1996 model or newer with OBD-II, it requires both safety and emissions inspection.
Can I drive with an expired inspection sticker?
Technically yes for up to 60 days after purchase of a used vehicle, but driving with an expired sticker can result in a traffic ticket ($25–$100) and points on your license. Don't risk it.
Do you inspect diesel vehicles?
Yes. Diesel vehicles require safety inspection but are exempt from the emissions portion in most cases.
My Check Engine light is on — will I fail?
Yes, an illuminated Check Engine light is an automatic emissions failure. We can diagnose the issue and repair it so you pass. Often it's a simple fix like a gas cap or oxygen sensor.
Your Inspection Sticker Expiring?
Don't wait until the last minute — or worse, get a ticket. Walk in anytime, 7 days a week. Most inspections done in under 30 minutes.
